Advances in Carlin Deposits of Northern Nevada: West Pequop, Arturo, Dee

$35.00

INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the Geological Society of Nevada’s 2010 Symposium Field Trip 5 which will visit the following areas: Pequop Mountains, Goldstrike Mine and Arturo.
Nevada continues to yield excellent new discoveries and some are located in geologic settings that have not previously been considered prospective. This trip is designed for the seasoned ‘Carlin’ geologist who wants to examine some of Nevada’s most recent discoveries. At West Pequop the tour will walk through the upper Cambrian to the upper Ordovician focusing on and highlighting mineralization within the West Pequop project and discuss the mineralized section at Long Canyon. Core, maps and cross sections will also be reviewed. At Arturo, the discovery area will be toured and stops will be made at Dee to focus on similar geologic environments exposed at the surface and in the mine. Presentations for both areas will be given in the evenings, as well as presentations within the tours that highlight specific geology. As an extra bonus, we will be accessing the Arturo area through the Goldstrike Mine.
The field trip will begin in Reno on Thursday morning, May 20, with one evening spent in Wells and one evening spent in Elko. From Reno, we will drive to Wells where Mark Abrams and Gregg Loptien, Agnico-Eagle (USA) Ltd Exploration Manager and Senior Geologist, respectively, will start the Pequop Mountains tour by reviewing the geologic section in core and discussing the regional geology. Dinner and a more formal presentation will follow on Thursday night. Friday will be spent touring the West Pequop project area. The tour will walk through the upper Cambrian to the upper Ordovician focusing on and highlighting mineralization. Friday evening will be spent in Elko where Richard Hipsley, Chief Geologist, Barrick Goldstrike Exploration, will give a presentation on Arturo. On Saturday, we will depart Elko and travel to Arturo through the Goldstrike Mine. Richard Hipsley, Barrick, will then lead discussions on new developments at Arturo. After viewing the Arturo area, the trip will head back to Reno.
