Student Poster Competition

2026 GSN Student Poster Competition

Held on Friday, April 17th, 2026 at the Atlantis Casino (3800 S. Virginia St.) in Reno, NV, this event is intended to be a casual and fun event for students and members of the Nevada geoscience community. The poster session will offer students a welcoming atmosphere to showcase their work to a friendly and jovial audience, network with a wide-ranging group of geoscience professionals, and the chance to win prizes in recognition of their work:

Graduate Students: 1st: $500, 2nd: $400, 3rd: $300

Best Undergraduate Poster: $300

Poster presenters should plan to arrive at the Atlantis by 5PM on April 17th and have their posters up by 5:30PM—judging by a panel of GSN volunteers will start at 6:00PM sharp.  GSN will provide registered student presenters with a free dinner starting at 7:00PM. The winners will be announced after dinner, around 7:30PM.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

  • You must be a current graduate or undergraduate student at the time of the competition.
  • You must be attending one of the following institutions: University of Nevada (Reno or Las Vegas), Western Nevada Community College, Truckee Meadows Community College, Sonoma State, Sacramento State and Chico State. If you attend an institution not on this list and would still like to apply, please reach out to the GSN Secretary Mandy Bengtson directly (mandy.bengtson@swca.com).
  • You must be in a geoscience or hydrology major/program. If you are unsure if your program qualifies, please reach out to the GSN Secretary Mandy Bengtson directly (mandy.bengtson@swca.com).
  • You must be a student member of GSN to enter the competition. Student membership is $25 for the year and students who RSVP to dinner meetings eat for free. If you are not already a member, please use this link to sign up.
  • Please register for the competition with the same email address used for your GSN Student Membership.
  • Your submission is your own original work and is not AI-generated.
  • Students *must* be in attendance to win.

DEADLINE: Student entries must be received no later than 11:59PM PST on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
