Abstract: The Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology (NBMG) is the State Geological Survey for Nevada and is housed within the College of Science at the University of Nevada, Reno. In addition to research and teaching initiatives, NBMG also is the repository for core, cuttings, hand samples, thin sections, historical documents, and various other collections pertaining to Nevada’s geology exploration, and mining history. Efforts are ongoing to inventory, catalogue, and disseminate existing datasets while collecting new samples and records. During this talk, we will review different collections, rock samples, and historical mining documents stored at the Great Basin Science Sample and Records Library (GBSSRL, public facing unit of NBMG) and the many datasets and collections that are now available online.

In addition, Rachel contributes significantly to education and outreach efforts at NBMG, teaching at workshops, in K-12 classrooms, and sharing the geology of Nevada with the public through field trips, story maps, presentations, and through identifying rocks and minerals for customers.
