SC-8 Molybdenum in the New Millennia
- Course Cancelled -
Roger Steininger, Consulting Geologist
This short course will focus on primary molybdenum deposits. Given that approximately half of the world production of the metal comes as a by-product from porphyry copper deposits part of the course will consider molybdenum in those deposit types. Consideration will be given to Climax-type, other granitic systems, quartz monzonite stock, and quartz monzonite batholitic molybdenum deposits. In addition to the geology of these systems, emphasis will be placed on alteration and mineral zoning within and surrounding the deposits and how that can be applied in exploration.
The instructor spent the early part of his career with the Climax Molybdenum Company during the period when the understanding of molybdenum deposit geology was being developed. Since then he continued his involvement with this type of geology and worked with several of the major molybdenum producers. A significant portion of the information presented in this course has not been widely disseminated in the public domain and will provide the participant with new insights. Cost: $300 (students $75); May 20.
