The GSN Mission
The Geological Society of Nevada (GSN) is a non-profit scientific society whose principal mission is to promote the advancement of the geological sciences, especially as they relate to Nevada. The Society encourages the dissemination of scientific and practical knowledge through semiformal presentations, field trips and symposia as well as by publishing the literature resulting from these activities. The Society has developed a secondary mission, through the GSN Foundation, of funding a number of earth science related charitable programs, including grants for K-12 field trips, university scholarships and grants for geological mapping.

GSN Announcements
Important Membership Dues Update - Wednesday, July 23, 2008
GSN has modified their dues structure and membership renewal timing to a membership year that runs from January 1 through December 31. The new dues are $50 per year and will pay for the annual calendar membership year. Early renewal for 2009 will start in September 2008. Anyone registered prior to December 31, 2008, will have their name in the 2009 GSN Membership Directory, which will be published in January 2009. If you register after December 31, 2008, you will still receive a Membership Directory; however, your name will not be included.

Full time student memberships will be $25 for the 2009 membership year. Geotemps has generously agreed to support memberships for Nevada students again for 2009.

The dues required for membership between September 1 and December 31, 2008 for existing members will be pro-rated at $15 ($7.50 Students) in order to receive the GSN Newsletter and attend GSN functions such as the dinners, cocktail hours, and Fall GSN field trip. This is a transition cost for each member and will only occur this year. The new Membership Application will have a pro-rated membership line. You will be able to pay for the fall and the entire 2009 membership starting in September. Brand new members to GSN will be required to pay $30 and will receive a current directory. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience. Our new full time office manager is currently working on updating the database so that the problems we have experienced in the past will be alleviated.

Welcome to the New GSN Web Site! - Sunday, April 20, 2008

We would like to welcome you to the new GSN website, and give you an opportunity to voice your opinions as to content and format.  This website will be continually evolving over the next few months, and your suggestions are always welcome.  Please contact us at webmaster@gsnv.org.

Sometime after the first of part of 2007 all members will receive an e-mail detailing how to access the "members only" portion of the website.  This portion will have a geologic discussion area, members photo gallery, a documents area, geologic links, and job listings.  This premium content will be available to all GSN members.  Future plans for the website include a GSN store, online registration and membership dues payments.

Members will have access to their account profile and preferences, and will be able to decide how much or how little information they receive by e-mail.  GSN considers the privacy of member information to be extremely important and will not distribute any personal information without explicit consent.
